INDEPENDENCE, MO (KCTV) -

Kids are no longer able to play on a few slides in Independence.

The Parks and Recreation department shut them down when they did not meet inspection requirements.

With some of the slides installed nearly 15 years ago, they had been subjected to significant wear and tear, causing them to be closed off.

The city conducts inspections on a quarterly basis and are currently working to either fix or replace the damaged slides, according to Independence Public Information Officer Meg Lewis.

Starting next summer, the city of Independence will begin the parks replacement program. They will replace 17 programs over the course of 10 years.
