This week: Inexpensive ways to entertain kids during the summer

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Summer fun doesn’t have to break the bank. Here are a few free or inexpensive activities you can try this week.

The streetcar in downtown is free for all to enjoy. It is more about the journey and not the destination.

While on the streetcar, you can take in some of Kansas City’s prettiest communities, or, if you feel like splurging, stop and shop or grab a bite to eat.

On Wednesday, kick off the morning at Tomahawk Ridge Community Center in Overland Park.  The percussion duo Johnny and Adam Pierce is giving a free performance. The community center offers free events every month.

The community center is located at 11902 Lowell Ave.

If you’re feeling artsy, head to Kaleidoscope Studio at Crown Center. It is an art studio for kids 5-12 where they can create all sorts of artwork. Tickets are free on a first come basis.

To wind down a Saturday evening, what could be better than a free movie night with the kids at the Santa Fe Commons Park in Overland Park?

This week’s film is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Santa Fe Commons Park is located near Santa Fe Drive and Metcalf Avenue.

And remember, there are several free fireworks events across the metro Monday and Tuesday, including in Lee’s Summit and Overland Park.

Some events do require a ticket ahead of time, so be sure to check before you go.
