Planned Parenthood petitions Royals to drop agreement with Vitae

Posted: Updated:

Planned Parenthood organizers dropped off about 50,000 petitions to the Royals’ front office on Friday.

It’s the organizations latest attempt to try and get the baseball team to end their relationship with a pro-life group.

A small group of supporters showed up at Kauffman Stadium wearing t-shirts and holding signs and petitions.

They said that only a limited number of people showed up because they didn't want to blow their cover and risk being kicked off the property.

Planned Parenthood Great Plains and UltraViolet came together in a campaign to show their disappointment with an advertising partnership between the Royals and the pro-life organization Vitae Foundation.

It all started after the Royals thanked Vitae for a long partnership on their video board.

PPGP wants the Royals to drop their agreement with the foundation.

On Friday, Planned Parenthood representatives and supporters gathered to turn in 50,000 signatures from Royals fans and baseball fans across the country.

They said they want to send a strong message that there is no place in baseball for that type of dialogue.

"I don't think it's representative of all of their fans that are supporters and I just think it's an unacceptable organization to partner with,” said Tara Gase.

Bonyen Lee-Gilmore, the communications director for PPGP, said, "We know that the Royals fan base includes countless women and young girls and they need to be making it clear that this partnership is inappropriate and it doesn't represent the fanbase and the Kansas City audience."

Planned Parenthood representatives and supporters hope their actions on Friday persuade the Royals to end their advertising agreement with Vitae.
