KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

The holiday weekend is here, which means many people will be stocking up on fireworks.

The American Pyrotechnics Association said Americans will spend $850 million this year.

That’s up $25 million from last year.

Save U More Fireworks owner Bob Eickhiff said he suggests buying Friday night.

Eickhiff expects his supplies to be extremely limited come July 3 and July 4.

“If you want something, you need to get here,” Eickhiff said. “Don’t wait to buy it.”

Eickhiff also said he suggests taking advantage of early bird deals.

Prices on fireworks sometimes increase anywhere from $5-20  the closer it gets to the holiday.

Eickhiff said the sets of fireworks, like the King Kong, are the way to go if you want the most bang for your buck.

Some are even as low as $15, and Eickhiff said it includes enough fireworks to entertain the kids.

Kids also love the sparklers, but Eickhiff has a warning about those.

“Sparklers are real popular, but you got to really watch what you’re doing with them because of the metal stick, because the metal is where they get burned real often,” Eickhiff said.

The other big issue is bottle rockets.  They aren’t available in Kansas, but you can buy them in parts of Missouri.

Eickhiff said he suggests staying away from those – they’re too dangerous.
