FAIRWAY, KS (KCTV) -

A lot of people’s jaws dropped when they saw President Trump’s tweets this morning and the shock is coming from both sides of the aisle.

Kansas Republican Representative Lynn Jenkins was one of the first to respond when she tweeted: “This is not ok. As a female in politics I am often criticized for my looks. We should be working to empower women.”

She also tried to not come down too hard.

"I'm not going to pretend to understand what he's thinking when he does that, but I do I know that I think he's capable of doing some really good things for the American people,” she said. “If he could just focus his attention there, I think we could advance the nation."

Missouri Democratic Representative Emanuel Cleaver tweeted: “This is the problem with our politics today. We must be better than this. #Civility”

Kansas Republican Representative Kevin Yoder tweeted: “I don’t believe the President’s tweets this morning Make America Great Again. We need more civility in our rhetoric. These kinds of mean-spirited attacks don’t help us come together as Americans.”

The president has not directly responded to the outrage over the tweets that are now making international news.
