Kansas likely isn’t the first state that comes to mind when you think of beaches, but one website has said that Olathe is one of the best beach towns in the country.
According to WalletHub, Olathe is the 20th best beach town in the country.
You may be questioning their methodology at this point.
Well, they compared 227 cities based upon 49 “indicators for livability,” which included the quality of the water as well as affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life.
They didn’t specify exactly which body of water and beach they were referring to, but all signs point to the Lake Olathe Beach in the area of W. Santa Fe Street and Lakeshore Drive.
People have given the lake's public use area good reviews on Google overall, giving in an average rating of 4.3 stars. Remarks include notes about the "amazing scenery” and how “the beach is often full on hot days.”
Perhaps WalletHub is on to something…
Additionally, Olathe may just rank higher on the list next year, as plans are in place to further develop the lake area this summer. A master plan for Lake Olathe Park was approved by the city council in September of last year.
Phase 1 construction would spend $20 million on developments at Lake Olathe, Cedar Lake, and Cedar Creek Trail. There will be a swim beach, marina, event space, botanical garden, fishing pavilion, zipline, restrooms, and more according to the city's website.
Lee's Summit, Missouri was also on the list, coming in at number 59.
Branson, Missouri came in at 92 and Rolla, Missouri was ranked at 175.
