GARDNER, KS (KCTV) -

The city of Gardner is working to improve their community and business resources.

Currently a CVS, Dairy Queen and a Hampton Hotel are all in the process of being built.

Though, the City of Gardner isn't stopping there as they have their eyes on further growth.

Now, a plan is now underway to improve Gardner’s Main Street Corridor.

Though the city is just in the data gathering phase, the plan is to extend the development several blocks deep.

The city received a grant for a little over $112,500 by The Mid-America Regional Council.

The city will contribute the additional expenses to make the total cost of the project $150,000.

According to the Director of Business and Economic Development, Larry Powell they're looking to add retail and service businesses along the corridor.

"Along with that we know we will need to do some beautification. There will be some infrastructure improvements, transportation improvements. We're working with the Johnson County transportation agency to increase our bus, or public transportation etc. All of those will be combined into a multi-year improvement process,” Powell said.

The city hopes to finalize the plan late in the year.

Powell said they are hosting a series of meetings and encourage the public to attend for input.
