KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The popular social media app Snapchat just added a new feature and it's raising some safety concerns.

It’s called "Snap Map."

It pinpoints users' exact locations on a map once they've shared a story with friends.

With a pinch of the screen, you can spot your friends' locations no matter where they are on the globe.

“I understand the thought behind it about wanting to share more with your friends and be more connected," said Stephanie Wheeler, who owns a Smartphone. “But as a parent with children, I would want to know how to turn that off.”

So how do you turn it off?

According to expert Burton Kelso, if you are not interested in making your or your child’s location known, use the “Ghost Mode” button inside the app to turn it off.

But there's a catch.

“Just because you turn off the GPS location services within Snapchat, doesn’t mean that those settings are turned off on all the other apps that can be using GPS location services,” Kelso said.

Kelso said you can turn off the function completely for all apps with one swipe in your “location settings” in your phones actual settings.

He said it's also a good idea to talk with your children about who they are friending on social media, and ensure those friends are actually people they know.
