KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Summertime doesn’t have to break the bank.

There are plenty of inexpensive or free things to do around town this week.

Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead in Overland Park has free admission from 2 p.m. to close Monday through Friday every week.

You can enjoy the animals, gardens, pony rides and more.  You can also visit the blacksmith’s shop to see how metal is turned into utensils or art and so much more.

Also this week, there are plenty of free library activities for your children.

On Tuesday evenings from 5-6:30 p.m., The Irene H. Ruiz Library Branch on West Penway hosts it’s ‘block night.’

Your children can go and play with plenty of wooden and foam blocks, as well as Legos and Duplo blocks and all sorts of building materials.

If you like beer or just seeing how things are made at a local institution, you can enjoy a free hour-long walking tour of Boulevard Brewing Company.  The tour includes samples in the tasting room.

It runs 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. every day.

Visitors of all ages are welcome, but the hour-long tour is not recommended for children under the age of seven.

Finally, you can take a trip to the City Market in the River Market neighborhood, which is touted as one of the largest and most enduring public farmer’s markets in the Midwest – it’s open year-round.

You can browse, people watch or spring for a few treats – you can set your own budget and spend an afternoon enjoying one of Kansas City’s treasures.
