CLAY COUNTY, MO (KCTV) -

Fourteen thousand people were without power in the Kansas City area, this morning, according to Kansas City Power & Light.

Most of the outages were in Clay County neighborhoods along I-35 and I-435, northwest of Worlds of Fun. The Pleasant Valley area was also affected.

KCP&L said that the total of 14,000 outages was caused by a circuit issue on a transmission line that knocked out power to two substations around 7:30 a.m.

The number of outages on the map dropped rapidly, indicating that KCP&L was working to restore power. In a matter of minutes, just before 9 a.m., the number of outages in Clay County alone went from 10,000 to about 5,000.

About an hour later, almost all customers had their power restored.
