Makeshift tow truck steals family’s van

Posted: Updated:

A Kansas City family has been left without a vehicle after two men with a makeshift tow truck stole it earlier this month.

“I gave them the benefit of the doubt,” Jennie Longacre said.

When Longacre looked off her deck and saw two men taking her van, she didn’t think they were stealing it.

“Maybe they think it’s illegally parked,” she explained. However, when she told them to stop, they didn’t.

A camera caught footage of the crime.

The truck had no markings, but did have a wench on the back.

“They went right to where you hook it up at, so I think they were scouting it out beforehand,” Longacre said.

She said she called the police immediately and filed a report.

The nearly 20-year-old Chrysler Town & Country that was stolen was the family’s only vehicle.

“Honestly, you’ve got to do the next right thing, because you reap what you sow, you know?” she said. “You reap what you sow.”

KCTV5 reached out to the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department for answers about Longacre’s van and if there are more thefts like this in the city.

At the time this was written, the department had not responded.

Longacre said she hopes this will spur neighbors to start looking out for each other.
