OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

Overland Park police have wrapped up a standoff with an armed man on Thursday afternoon.

Investigators say a man was barricaded in a home with a gun in the 9400 block of Taylor near Highway 69.

Police were originally called to the scene for a medical call, then he barricaded himself inside. At least two people got out of the home safely.

Police said that he was armed and that they saw him wearing a gas mask at one point. Because of that, the neighborhood was evacuated and neighbors stayed across the street for hours, waiting to get back into their homes.

"Really, all we've wanted to do since noon is just to get in there and let our dogs out to go to the bathroom and just get on with our day," said Toby Freeman. "We've been standing out here for over an hour waiting on cops to move the barricades so we can get on the street."

Police officers spent almost five hours negotiating with the man before he came out.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., the man was apprehended without incident.

So far there are no reports of anyone getting hurt.

Police responded to another call at the same home on Wednesday with the same person there, but for a different situation.
