CLAY COUNTY, MO (KCTV) -

Authorities in Kansas City have charged a man and a woman with felony drug trafficking.

Billy Gerhardt, 32, and Amie Doss, 32, have each been charged with second-degree trafficking drugs.

The two suspects were pulled over while driving a blue Isuzu with unlicensed plates and traveling on Missouri Highway 210 in Kansas City, MO.  Gerhart provided documents showing he had recently purchased the vehicle.

Police asked Gerhardt if they could search the vehicle. He consented and police called in a K-9 unit to conduct the search.

During the search, the K-9 had a positive indication for the odor of narcotics near the driver’s side door, the center console, the radio area and a pink purse found on the passenger side seat.

After a second search of the vehicle police found $4,252, 309 grams of a substance later deemed to be methamphetamine, a syringe with a clear liquid substance, a package containing unused syringes, a roll of small Ziploc bags, often used in the sale and distribution of narcotics, three cell phones and a tablet.

The estimated street value of the methamphetamine is $46,365.

Both suspects were arrested at the scene by the Clay County MoWIN Narcotics Task Force.

During an interview with police Gerhardt said he did not know the drugs were in the car. He also said he works on cars at his home and that the cash was from working on his neighbor’s vehicles.
