Microburst struck warehouse hours before massive blaze

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Stephen Beyer has sold furniture for 38 years and now, his inventory is gone.

Beyer is the owner of the store that caught fire on Tuesday.

One of Beyer's customers called him to tell him his store was on fire.

“Right then I actually got a text from KCTV5 and I looked down at my phone and it says furniture store on fire," Beyer said. "That’s when I headed downtown to see the horrible results.”

That was just the beginning of his problems.

Just hours before the Friday, a microburst hit the warehouse on Saturday night, tearing off the roof and damaging the sprinkler system.

The entire building was flooded.

"It looked like a raging river inside the store," Beyer said. "Furniture was rolling past me and the fire chief."
