KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Graffiti was found by security on Memorial Missionary Baptist Church’s sign, and it’s being taken seriously.

Larry Aiken, the church’s bishop, said he isn’t taking the graffiti lightly because of recent events in the United States.

“I hope it was just kids playing around,” Aiken said. “But you can never rule out fact anytime you see a threat or something that says, ‘Bang Bang,’ the first thing you think of is shooting guns.”

Aiken said that while there is never a good time for this to happen, it’s especially hurtful after a recent run of bad luck at the church.

A mix up last week canceled carnival rides for a big event, and a car was hit by thieves in the parking lot.

Aiken said he wants whoever drew the graffiti to know that it is not a victimless crime, and that the sign belongs to the congregation.

Aiken said he is going to try to make the best out of the situation.

“It can be hurtful, but I’m going to do it like my fellow sufferers of the gospel would,” Aiken said. “We’ll use it as fuel to fight the good fight of faith.”

If you have any idea who may have destroyed the church’s sign, you’re asked to call police.
