OLATHE, KS (KCTV) -

A Johnson County organization is hitting the bowling lanes to help adults with special needs.

Inclusion Connections is hosting a Bowl-O-Rama to change the community’s perception of people with disabilities.

Inclusion Connections said it encourages acceptance, and this bowling event funds their mission.

Kelly Weyer works for Inclusion Connections. She said there is a misconception that adults with special needs are not employable.

“A lot of it is just talking to the employers themselves – letting them know that our individuals are out there, they have dreams of being employed, they want to make money and live like you and I do with their own independent living style,” Weyer said.

Emma Lingquist has been coming to Inclusion Connections for three years.

“Probably my favorite thing is just coming to see my friends, because you know when you go to school or in the public you don’t really feel like you fit in – but when you walk through these doors you do – because everyone has their own abilities – so you don’t feel left out,” Lingquist said.

Lingquist said she wants to prove her disability doesn’t hold her back.

Some of the teens and adults like Lingquist work at PawsAbilities. They make and sell dog treats to prove that they’re employable – and successful.

The program has become a hit, thanks to their hard work and the funds raised each year from Bowl-O-Rama.

The event will take place on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Olathe East Lanes.

Inclusion Connections will also be selling I-C-KC shirts – you can buy in support of your team.
