LAWRENCE, KS (KCTV) -

Six-year-old Maxton Garcia has wanted to be a neurosurgeon since he was three, and he got a chance Tuesday to visit The University of Kansas Medical Center to see what the job entails.

Maxton got to meet a skilled and experienced neurosurgeon at the hospital who helped him fix a brain on a mannequin.

“He showed me the brain stem and the brain and the skull,” Maxton said.

This all began when Maxton’s mom, Tara Tinney, messaged the University of Kansas Health System on Facebook. She said her son dreams of being a doctor and asked for brochures and pamphlets to entertain him.

Tinney said that while most kids want to play, Maxton studies brains, and she’s thankful the doctors at KU support his dream.

This is the first time KU brought in a guest this young. Rachel Caldwell Mullins, who works at The University of Kansas Medical Center, said it was a very unique request.

“We thought, why not bring him in for a visit and show him what it would be like to be an actual neurologist at KU Med Center,” Mullins said.

Tinney said she doesn’t think her son will ever forget his visit.

“This day has been amazing,” Tinney said. “He’s been counting down for weeks.”

Tinney said her grandfather and uncle both went to KU. She said she would love to keep it in the family.
