KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Authorities in Kansas City have reopened a metro interstate after a pedestrian was hit and killed early Tuesday morning.

The man was hit about midnight while walking on eastbound Interstate 670 near Genessee Street.

Police say the man, described as an adult, white man, was walking on the highway when he was hit and killed by a silver Volkswagen driving in the center lane.

The driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with officers.

Police allowed the driver to leave the scene but kept the driver’s vehicle.

Witnesses say they saw the man running from left to right across the interstate before being struck.

Eastbound Interstate 670 was closed from Genessee Street to downtown after the accident. The area reopened about 4:30 a.m.

Authorities have not said why the pedestrian was walking on the highway.
