KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

People in one Kansas City, KS neighborhood are waking up with questions after four people were shot and three were killed Tuesday night.

The shooting happened at 10:22 p.m. at a house in the 1900 block of South Boeke Street.

Police identified the victims as Bernadette Gosserand, 47, Jeremy Rocha, 26, and Vincent Rocha, 47.

When officers arrived they found the man who had called them who had been shot twice, once in the head and once in the back. Police then found three other people, two men and a woman, who had been shot and killed inside the home.

Officers say the man who survived, passed out from his injuries. He woke up sometime later and ran to a neighbor's home asking for help and to call 911. Police were able to get a suspect’s name from the injured man.

Officers also say children were inside the home. All were unharmed.

Police have not released the identities of the victims but do say that they were all in their mid-30s to 40s.

Police Chief Terry Zeigler tweeted shortly before midnight that a suspect had been taken into custody.

Police and K-9 units chased the suspect for a short distance before taking him into custody in the 3200 block of Haskell Avenue about 15 minutes from the scene of the shooting. Officers say they knew who they were looking for.

It is unclear what kind of relationship the suspect had with the victims.

Neighbors in the area say the couple had sons from previous relationships that recently moved in.

They say violence is not common in that area.

"It don't seem to be the type of neighborhood around here where there's a bunch of violence or nothing like that," said Peter Madrueno.

Police are working with the district attorney's office to figure out what charges to file against the suspect. They say they will release the identities of those involved in the shooting after the charges are filed.
