MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. (MEREDITH) -- A Michigan woman who became an instant millionaire after scoring a winning scratch-off said she’s not quitting her job as a nurse, but she will scale back to a 40-hour work week for the first time in years.

The nurse, who chose to remain anonymous, bought the $4 million ticket at a gas station in Macomb County and couldn’t wait to scratch it, according to a statement from the Michigan Lottery Bureau.

“I scratched the ticket in the store and I was floored,” said the player. “I screamed a few choice words that got the clerk’s attention and she asked what I’d won. She didn’t believe me until she looked at the ticket herself.”

She shared the news with family and a few close friends, including her boss. The woman said she’s been a nurse for 28 years, and has worked a lot of overtime.

Her boss was afraid that she was going to retire after hitting the jackpot, but the nurse has other plans. She’s happy with just cutting back her hours.

“I’m not sure I’ve ever worked just a 40-hour week, so working just 40 hours at one job will feel like retirement to me!”

The lucky player claimed her prize on Monday and opted for the one-time lump sum payment of $2.5 million rather than an annuity.

She told the lottery bureau that she plans to pay her bills, pay for her daughter’s college tuition, buy a new car, and invest the rest.
