ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Incoming Missouri State Representative Bruce Franks Jr. was robbed at gunpoint Monday night.

The representative-elect posted on Facebook around midnight that his “car and phones and stuff” were taken, but he is “glad to be alive.”

According to police, Franks was talking on his cell phone while sitting in his car on the parking lot of the Schlafly Tap Room on Locust when two suspects approached his driver’s side door around 7:25 p.m. One of the suspects pointed a gun at Franks, at which time he exited his car and ran inside the Schlafly Tap Room.

The suspects then drove Franks’ 2009 red Toyota Camry from the parking lot and out of sight. They also reportedly stole a black handgun and two cell phones that were inside the vehicle, police said.

"What hurts the most is that these are the same young people that I try to help and I'll continue helping and more importantly, they look like me," Franks said.

Franks is the founder of a non-profit that try to help young people. He's already filed bills at the Capitol to address gun violence.

"We are not going to lock-up our way up out of this problem," he said. "Yes, the young men need to be held accountable but they need the resources too, so after they are held accountable, we still need to be there to help them," he said.

Franks stolen car was found by the Ferguson Police Department Tuesday. Police said none of his stolen items were found inside the vehicle.

The vehicle the suspects were driving was found in the 1200 block of North 9th Street on Tuesday also.

The suspects are still being sought by police.

Franks is no stranger to gun violence. His brother was murdered when Franks was young and he's been robbed at gun point before.

Earlier this month, the wife of Governor-elect Eric Greitens was robbed by a 19-year-old suspect near her Central West End home. Police said Sheena Greitens had just left a restaurant when the suspect pointed a gun at her and demanded she handover her cellphone and laptop, which she did. The suspect, Marquay Beard was taken into custody and charged with one count of tampering with a motor vehicle.
