KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A robbery suspect was shot and killed by Kansas City police on Wednesday and hours later, ten arrests were made after during and after a standoff

The shots rang out at about 3 p.m. near 8th and Van Brunt in Kansas City. The standoff was located just a few blocks over at 9th and Cleveland Avenue.

Friends of the suspect shot and killed say he was named Dwayne Kingston. Police indicate he was a suspect in a string of robberies.

After leaving a home at 9th and Cleveland, they let in a car driven by William Dennison.

Dennison told KCTV5 News Thursday he was driving the man and his girlfriend home when they were pulled over.

He says an officer in plain clothes said his registration was expired, which Dennison says wasn't the case.

"About that time, they were already in the car," Dennison said. "On top of him saying 'he's got a gun, don't go for the gun!'"

Dennison said he feels the shooting could have been avoided.

The Kansas City Police Department is standing by their account of the shooting.
