Devondre Sanders and Sierra Mitchell have both been charged with first-degree murder in connection to the death of 4-year-old Honesty Sanders.

Police say Sanders and Mitchell murdered the girl. Sanders was her father.

Investigators say Honesty was found unconscious in a Kansas City, KS apartment in May and died days later.

KCTV5 spoke to Honesty's mother, Myra Price, before the two suspects turned themselves in on Wednesday.

Last October, Price told KCTV5 she was struggling and asked Honesty's grandmother, the mother of Devondre Sanders, for help. She dropped her daughter off at the grandmother's home.

"When I asked for her back, his mother kept stating that she was with her daddy," Price said. "Well I'm ready for her to come back home."

Communication became difficult and Price said Sanders and Mitchell wouldn't let her see her daughter. They also did not tell her where they were, according to Price.

The last time Price spoke to Sanders was on Mother's Day. She later received a phone call from detectives informing her of her daughter's death.

"As soon as I went in that hospital and I seen my baby and they told me what had happened, I knew that coward did something that he had no business doing," Price said. "I felt like I was doing all the steps to get my daughter back; people were telling me to be patient do this - no - no I feel like it should have never happened."

Sanders and Mitchell are being held on a $500,000 bond.
