KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A male suspect wanted for several robberies has died following an officer-involved shooting in Kansas City.

In addition, 10 other suspects were taken into police custody following a standoff at 9th and Cleveland.

A large emergency presence is on scene of 8th Street and Van Brunt Boulevard.

Undercover officers shot a suspect, according to police on scene. The individual shot by police has died. On Dec. 2 he was identified as David K. Crosby-Dowdy, a 25-year-old black man. No police officer was injured.

According to police, the suspect was initially complying with officers' orders.

However, police said when the man exited the vehicle, he attempted to grab a gun.

"Unfortunately this individual was not taken into custody as hoped, but thankfully no officers were hurt," said Kansas City police sergeant Kari Thompson.

Police say they received information as early as Wednesday morning that this man had indicated that he was armed and prepared to shoot police if they tried to arrest him.

Our Chopper 5 pilot reports there were nearly 30 emergency vehicles on scene.

Witness recounts events of shooting

A young woman on the block who saw it all happen shortly before 3 p.m. was anything but rattled to see a man shot by police outside her window.

"You expect those things to happen here," she said. "Plus if you're going to do the crime you might as well expect the consequences."

She didn't want to give her name, but said there were three people in the car. The man shot was in the passenger seat.

"This individual stated that they were armed and willing and ready to get into a shootout with officers if there was an attempt to arrest him," Thompson said.

Police say officers immediately rendered first aid until an ambulance arrived. The suspect died at the hospital.

Standoff near scene is over

Kansas City police officers surrounded a home for hours after the shooting.

Officers are using a drone as part of their response.

The boom of flash grenades have been heard as they are trying to get individuals inside the home to come out.

Police thought more suspects were still inside, so they surrounded the home.

At around 6:40 p.m., one person did surrender to police. By 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, officers began to back up from the scene.

It's unknown at this time how many people are in custody in connection to the shooting and Wednesday's events.
