KCK man killed in early morning shooting identified

KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

Police have identified the man killed in a shooting Sunday morning in KCK. 

About 30 minutes after midnight, the KCK Police Department went to the 600 block of Central Avenue on a call about a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a white man in his 20s laying outside on the sidewalk.

Police say that Louie Scherzer is the victim of the homicide. 

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The victim’s identity will not be released until a positive identification is made and his family is notified.

At 1 p.m., police chief Terry Zeigler tweeted that a suspect was in custody and that a possible weapon had been recovered. 

The incident is still being investigated by KCKPD’s Criminal Investigations Division. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
