LEE'S SUMMIT, MO (KCTV) -

Police are investigating after a man was shot in the hand and a witness said they saw a man shooting out of his car along the highway.

Around 1:30 a.m., Lee’s Summit police officers went to the area of Blue Parkway and Highway 291 to investigate after receiving a call saying that shots had been fired in the area.

When officers arrived, they found a witness who said they’d seen a man firing a gun while leaning out of a vehicle traveling on nearby Highway 50.

An additional vehicle was found that had been struck by a bullet while it was traveling westbound on Highway 50.

No one in that vehicle was hit by gunfire, and they were not involved in the original disturbance between the two other vehicles.

Several hours later, Lee’s Summit police were told that a man had arrived in the hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand.

Officers went to the hospital to interview the man who told them that he’d been at a party in town when a disturbance broke out and he was shot in the hand.

Detectives are trying to piece together the information from witnesses and the victim, so the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline.
