KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Kansas City police are searching for a pair of car thieves who preyed on a woman who is six months pregnant with twins. The expectant mother hopes watchful eyes will get her car back before her due date.

Marisa Franks watched a convenience store’s surveillance video heartbroken by what she saw. A man in a bright red jacket is seen walking into the store on November 22 near Bannister Road and James A. Reed Road.

“I know they had to see me and see that I'm pregnant,” Franks said.

The same camera showed the suspect in the red jacket casually walking back out of the store. He hopped into Franks’ car and took off. The proud mother kept her twin boys’ first ultrasounds where she could see them near her steering wheel.

“They have my babies' first ultrasounds,” Franks said as tears fell down her face. She was looking forward to documenting every step of her pregnancy. In an instant, the thieves not only stole her transportation but those priceless photos as well as her soon to be born baby boys’ medical information that sat near her Bible behind her seat.

“My babies didn't do anything. I do need my car to get back and forth to work,” the mother said. “I do need my car for my children. It's cold out.”

Franks says she got distracted by a phone call while getting out of her car to buy juice at the convenience store. She didn’t realize she had left her keys inside until it was too late. “Everybody makes a mistake,” Franks said. “I just want to be able to warn other people not to make the same mistake.

She hopes others will watch for her 2012 black Kia Soul. It is missing a back-passenger hubcap. She had Missouri license plates MF5 E1S on the vehicle.

“It's amazing and sick that someone can take what is not theirs and be so calm about it,” Franks said. “Just knowing they were probably watching me. That's scary.”

The security video showed an accomplice pulling out of the parking lot in a gold vehicle that the thieves drove to the store. The man in the red jacket drove off in Franks’ car.

It’s a car she desperately needs to get to doctor’s appointments during a high-risk pregnancy.

If you see her car, she asks that you immediately call police. As for the thieves, she hopes they’ll leave her car unharmed because she can’t afford any more out of pocket expenses with two babies on the way during the holiday season.

Anyone with information can call 816-474-TIPS or police.
