KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The Thanksgiving holiday brought home a familiar face you can see on the current season of Survivor.

Ken McNickle is a native of Wamego, KS located just west of Kansas City. He lives for adventure, so when he heard about auditions for Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X in Figi he figured it was a no-brainier.

"I love the challenge. Anytime someone says it's going be difficult ... bring it on," he said.

But now he admits the adventure pushed him in ways he never thought possible.

"That kind of emotional stress going on 24-hours a day, it eats you alive," he said.

The eight-week week separation from his 6-year-old daughter, Sadie, was especially difficult.

"You can feel levels of yourself breaking down to the point where you feel like a shell ... not a lot going on inside," he said.

His strategy to make it a few more weeks to win the million was simple: be real and be the Midwestern guy he's always been.

"I was the happy go lucky nice guy out there, not the jaded city boy who's too cool for anybody," he said.

You can watch McNickle in action Wednesday night during a two-hour special episode of Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X at 7 p.m. on KCTV5.
