LAWRENCE, KS (KCTV/AP) -

A University of Kansas cheerleader and three members of the cheer squad have been suspended from cheering after a photo was posted on her Snapchat account linking the Ku Klux Klan with President-elect Donald Trump.

The Kansas City Star reports that the photo shows the cheer squad members wearing sweaters with "K'' representing "Kansas" on their chests.

White letters across the photo read "Kkk go trump."

The cheerleader who owns the account denied that she'd posted it after it went viral.

"I'm appalled that a snapchat was put out on my snapcat and posted on my account," the cheerleader wrote. "I would never of done that and I apologize it happened."

Many students on campus say they've already seen the photo.

“Totally inappropriate,” said Jamie Winningham. “It doesn’t represent the way I feel or people at KU feel.”

Amanda Harra also said the photo doesn’t represent the KU community.

“I didn’t think much of it,” Harra said. “It doesn’t represent the community here at KU. Everyone’s inclusive and friendly.”

Associate athletic director Jim Marchiony says university officials were made aware of the social media posting during the men's basketball team's 83-63 victory over UAB.

KU Athletics said in an official statement that a Twitter user reported the Snapchat photo to the school. A tweet from the school described what happened as "unacceptable."
