KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

DaQon Sipple looked apathetic in court on Friday, as he was sentenced to 21 months in prison for his actions on the day that Kansas City, Kansas Police Captain Robert Dave Melton died.

Sipple, 18, bounced around in his chair and glanced around the room as Captain Melton’s sister-in-law, Lynn Melton, spoke on behalf of the family.

Sipple took a plea deal and was sentenced to 21 months total, 24 months post-release. He was charged with aggravated assault, criminal discharge of firearms, and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

As part of that plea deal, he must testify against Jamaal Lewis. Lewis is the man accused of shooting and killing Captain Melton. He will also need to register as a violent offender for 15 years.

Lynn Melton said she knows they should work toward forgiving Sipple, but she said, “We don’t forgive you and we could care less about your life.” She called his sentence a slap on the hand and asked for harsher punishment.
