LEE'S SUMMIT, MO (KCTV) -

A Lee’s Summit man has died two days after being injured in an apartment fire.

The fire happened on SE 291 Highway. One apartment resident was taken to the hospital. Lee’s Summit firefighters said they received a call about an explosion at the apartment complex.

Days after the fire, the apartment complex remains taped off and the state’s Fire Marshall continues its investigation.

Tony Campbell was a maintenance man at a complex off of 291 Highway.

The property owner’s son-in-law tells KCTV5 Campbell lived in the apartment and passed away from his injuries late Wednesday afternoon.

It’s believe Campbell was trying to light a furnace when there was an explosion. Neighbors suspect a safety valve on a gas line malfunctioned.

Six of the apartment’s 14 complexes sustained damage.

Friends say a funeral is planned for Monday evening at Lee’s Summit Methodist Church.
