KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Years ago, many may have shopped at the Metro North Mall, but incredible images from inside the once Northland hotspot shows it in shambles.

And the man who photographed it says it's the creepiest abandoned mall he's ever seen. Seph Lawless is an internationally known photographer who documents anything that has been abandoned, and his photos and video of Kansas City's former mall have gone viral.

Lawless is known for finding places that are no longer needed. Malls where Americans once spent millions of dollars have been discarded, forgotten and destroyed.

When Lawless was in the Kansas City area, someone told him about Metro North Mall.

"As soon as I heard that, I wanted to check it out," he said.

For about two hours, Lawless took photos and shot video. He says the light was just right.

"I walked in and it was open. I saw some escalators they had already taken out. I remember photographing them and then I just went in and started shooting," he said.

The scene is eerie, and in all the abandoned malls Lawless has been in, he calls Metro North Mall the creepiest.

"It was really futuristic, but yet a creepy vibe being in there. And if you notice the yellow tint, I'm not warming those up. They're not edited at all. The white walls got more yellow and greenish and yellow," he said.

He says the skylights and architecture helped contribute to the creepy vibe. Water typically does the most damage, but the plants, many yellow, even look gold.

"It made you feel that much more out of this world, that much more apocalyptic that much more creepy and weird," Lawless said.

Lawless says when he was looking at his images, he knew a few would stand out.

"There were a few that are going to be profound images. These are images of an abandoned mall that symbolize what a true abandoned mall looks like. It is real eerie looking," he said.

Lawless doesn't like to say where he's heading next because he doesn't want to tip people off, but you can follow his adventures by going to www.sephlawless.com.
