KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The Salvation Army has 400 reason to be thankful this season.

With just a week away from Thanksgiving, a generous donation of 400 turkeys were delivered to the Salvation Army on Wednesday morning.

That is enough to feed not just Thanksgiving dinner but also Christmas dinners to more than 2,000 people in need this year. And it's all thanks to one Cyd Jokisch's mission.

What started as a one-time donation eight years ago has now grown to become a community-wide effort.

Jokisch has enlisted her closest family and friends to donate $15 per turkey. Currently, she has donated 3,300 turkeys. This year, she says donations came from beyond the metro area.

"I actually have people from all over the country not just Kansas City. My daughter put up a post on Facebook, and I got money from California and New York. It was overwhelming, and it's the first year I’ve had that," she said.

The Salvation Army will cook about 300 of those turkeys for their Thanksgiving dinner next week at the Linwood Center. The rest of them will be delivered to families in need.
