KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A 21-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in connection with the shooting of his pregnant girlfriend.

Devante Williams faces second-degree assault and armed criminal action charges in connection to the weekend shooting.

Court records state the shooting happened on the 3400 block of Harrison. The victim of the shooting said Williams shot her in the leg. She said they were “play fighting” when the handgun in the suspect’s hand went off.

Williams is accused of of taking the gun and magazine and tossing it into some bushes down the alley.

Williams told police he usually keeps the gun under his pillow and unloaded, but over the weekend, it accidentally went off.

The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries. The unborn baby was not harmed, according to court records.

A $75,000 bond has been requested.
