KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Authorities are investigating what caused a fire that destroyed a Kansas City church.

Almost 30 hours later, there are still many questions surrounding the Evangelistic Center Church that burned down Sunday. The church is located at Truman Road and Troost Avenue. The fire could be seen from miles away.

Firefighters were still out Monday morning, actively putting out hotspots.

Investigators are hoping to get more answers and started their investigation Monday at 9 a.m. along with police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

John Ham of the ATF said nothing indicates the fire was intentionally set.

“We have found nothing to indicate that it was set,” Ham said. “That could change, but right now we believe it is unfortunate and an accidental cause. There was a collapse.”

One of the brick walls to the church crumbled on Sunday. Firefighters remain concerned about the building’s instability.

The fire started Sunday just before 6 a.m. Roads nearby had to be closed to help firefighters battle the blaze. The roads are shut down in the area and could affect the morning commute.

The building partially collapsed, and one of the walls fell onto a fire truck. Crews were forced to attack the fire from outside for everyone's safety.

While the fire has rekindled several times already, church members are trying to stay hopeful.

"Tears while some you know full of faith, and we're going to make it through. I've gotten calls from all the cities and have been reached out from other congregations around us, and they’ve been praying for us even in that area around there," pastor John Crane said.

The good news is that no one was hurt.
