LIBERTY, MO (KCTV) -

A chase involving a wanted man ended in the Northland on Friday afternoon after he crashed into a trooper's patrol cruiser.

The crash came after the Clay County Sheriff's Department started pursuing a stolen vehicle on U.S. Highway 69 from Excelsior Springs. Deputies then requested assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Troopers were getting into position to assist on Missouri Highway 152 just west of Interstate 35 when the vehicle being pursued took the exit in that direction and crashed into a trooper's vehicle.

Clay County Sheriff's Department identified Shaun Howard as the suspect. He is being charged with assault on law enforcement, resisting arrest and possession of paraphernalia.

The trooper was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was out of his vehicle and walking around after the crash and before paramedics arrived, troopers say.

All lanes of westbound Hwy. 152 at I-35 reopened around 2 p.m.
