KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A local college is on high alert after a woman was attacked Thursday morning.

Campus police are looking for a man who attacked a woman about 11 a.m. at Metropolitan Community College’s Penn Valley Science and Technology building. The woman was walking and texting when the man grabbed her by the neck and tried to drag her into the men's bathroom.

The suspect was described as a dark-complected black man with a thin build. He was around 5 feet, 6 inches tall and wore a black jacket, blue jeans and black and green Jordan's tennis shoes.

Police did issue an alert to students about what happened. Currently, they have not been able to confirm whether the man is a student or not.

"This is a very rare occurrence," said Londell Jamerson, Chief of MCC Campus Police."We don't have a lot of high crime at all here or at any of our other campuses. So, I'm kind of surprised something like this would happen."

Both police and students are concerned that an incident like this happened on campus.

“The audacity of someone to come into the school in broad daylight and do something like this? He’s lucky I wasn’t in that hallway,” student Scott Shamblea said.

If you know anything about this incident, please contact police.
