KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A school bus struck and seriously injured a child Thursday morning.

It happened about 8:20 a.m. in the 7700 block of Trail Ridge Road after the school bus driver loaded children at a bus stop.

After closing the bus door and pulling away from the stop, a child ran in front of the bus, tripped and fell. The bus then struck the child.

Police say the child was taken to the hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses say the child that was struck was a young girl.
