Kirksville native one of three Special Forces soldiers killed in Jordan

KIRKSVILLE, MO (KCTV) -

A Kirksville, Missouri native is one of three United States service members that were killed in Jordan on November 4. 

Matthew C. Lewellen, 27, and two other Special Forces soldiers from the 5th Special Forces Group were killed after they came under fire as they were entering a Jordanian military base. 

Lewellen had served in the United States Army for more than six years. He was on his second overseas tour. 

His honors and awards included the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and NATO Medal.

The incident remains under investigation, the military said in a press release.
