WICHITA, KS (KCTV/AP) -

Police say a young girl is dead and another girl and a woman injured after stabbings in Wichita.

The attacks happened around 6:30 a.m. Friday. Police responding to a call from a man about an accident found one girl and the woman inside a Jeep that had crashed into an empty van in a Wichita parking lot.

Police found a 24-year-old woman and a 6-year-old girl, both with multiple stab wounds, inside the car. That child died.

A second girl, between 4 and 6 years old, was later found with stab wounds wandering in a field several miles northwest near Valley Center.

The child and the woman are in critical condition but are stable.

Wichita police have arrested Hassan Wright, 49, in connection with the case. Sgt. Nikki Woodrow said officers are also looking for another man.

On Thursday, Wright was booked on one count of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, and three counts of aggravated kidnapping.

Wright is related to the three stabbing victims. The woman identified Wright as the suspect; he is her uncle. The woman is the mother of both the young girls.

Wright also has a history of violent crime. In 1988 he was convicted of second-degree murder and aggravated battery in a shooting outside a Kansas City, Kansas barbecue restaurant.

He was out of prison less than a year before he was back in jail in 2005. He was convicted of aggravated battery and burglary in Sedgwick County and was required to register as a sex offender.

Wichita police continue to investigate the multiple scenes in this case. They are still trying to determine exactly what led to the stabbings.
