SUGAR CREEK, MO (KCTV) -

A man has been taken into custody after a police chase and an hour-long standoff near Independence.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, deputies tried to stop someone in a stolen car at Blue Ridge Boulevard and Stark Avenue in Blue Township around 11 a.m. on Thursday.

The driver wouldn’t stop and a chase began.

The driver ended up near N. River Road and Silver Lane in Sugar Creek. There, the driver dumped the car and fled on foot.

He ended up in someone’s backyard and there was a standoff with police for about an hour.

He later gave himself up and was taken into custody.

There were two female passengers in the car who were also detained. No one was injured.
