KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The Mayor’s Christmas tree was safely delivered to Crown Center at 9 a.m. on Thursday.

The 100-foot-tall Douglas fir had its own police escort to 25th and Grand Boulevard from its former home in Sweet Home, Oregon.

The tree is meant to call attention to the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund, which is a nonprofit organization that helps senior citizens, people with disabilities, and children during the holidays.

The tree will be decorated and lit at the annual lighting ceremony on Nov. 25 at 5:30 p.m.

The mayor said Meryl Davis and Charlie White, Olympic medalists in ice dancing, will help light the tree.

The tree was donated by Cascade Timber Consulting.
