OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

An Overland Park insurance company beat out more than 800 other startups for an opportunity to expand.

Inside ClaimKit's office building at 6811 Shawnee Mission Pkwy., a handful of people are working to make insurance policies a lot less complicated, and their work has gained national attention.

Chris Cheatham, the company's CEO, said his group makes software for navigating through all the fine print. It is like Google for insurance he says.

Their work is considered so cutting edge, the group is one of 22 companies invited to expand with companies in Silicon Valley.

ClaimKit will meet with major insurance companies and look at hiring salespeople in the area. The opportunity says a lot about how the tech world is developing in the metro.

"It's huge for our company, because getting the attention of large insurance companies is difficult. To go to one place where they're all centrally located is wonderful. It's also great to have a Silicon Valley type program identify a Kansas City company as doing something innovative that people are interested in throughout the country," Cheatham said.

The group plans to head out in early November.
