KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

One man is in custody after a wild car chase early Friday morning.

What started as an attempted traffic stop turned into a potential rape and kidnapping case. It was after midnight when Kansas City police noticed a car that was speeding.

Officers noticed a man driving and a woman in the car with him. When police tried to get the driver to pull over, he took off and a police chase began.

Police got a helicopter to help out with the pursuit. During the chase, the driver dropped off the woman before taking off again.

Several police cruisers chased the vehicle through downtown and throughout the city. After losing sight of the car for a short time, police found it in a driveway on 82nd Street.

Officers saw that the driver was still inside the car. The man then took off again before finally being caught at a roundabout on Northwest 72nd Street and North Jefferson Court.

He was taken into custody without incident.

Police say the woman in the car had been kidnapped and raped by the driver.
