Walls have been built and the building is close to being weather-ready as classrooms begin to take shape in Blue Valley’s newest elementary school.

The new school plans to be open by August 2017 for the 2017-2018 school year.

At the Board of Education meeting that was held on Oct. 10, boundaries and an opening date for Elementary 23 were approved.

“Past enrollment projections continued to indicate the need for an additional elementary school in the southern portion of the district,” said Mike Seitz, Blue Valley Board of Education president. “The board’s decision was a matter of when, not if. Enrollment projection data, budget resource discussions and the many conversations board members had with families, were invaluable in making the decision to open next year.”

The new school will be at Grant and 178th Street in the southern part of the school district. It will provide needed space for the growing population in that area, serving students who live west of 69 Highway between 167th Street and 215th Street.

Over the next three months, the district plans to identify a principal and form a parent advisory committee. That committee will provide input on various things, including the school's name, mascot, and colors.

More information about the school, including updates and timelines, is available on its website.
