TOPEKA, KS (WIBW) -

A single lane in each direction of I-470 between Fairlawn Rd. and Gage Blvd. has reopened following a crash that involved a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper.

The KHP trooper vehicle and another car collided on the Interstate around 3:30 p.m. Authorities say a trooper was stopped along the side of the highway when the car hit his vehicle.

The trooper and two other people in the car were taken to the hospital, authorities said.

With rush hour ramping up, the incident, which happened around 3:30 p.m., caused major delays in south Topeka, as drivers were forced to get off I-470 and find alternate routes.

The Kansas Dept. of Transportation says it doesn't expect all lanes of the interstate to reopen until at least 7:30 p.m.
