OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

An Overland Park family is enjoying a Disney cruise vacation thanks to some generous neighbors.

The Mullin family operates Headstrong, their own non-profit group which aims to help brain tumor patients and their families.

Gail Mullin, Rob Mullin and their two kids, Holli and Gavin, flew out of Kansas City International Airport to Florida.

Rob Mullin has been fighting brain cancer for 13 years.

Doctors say time is ticking faster.

“He felt it was necessary to take the cruise now,” Gail Mullin said. "We've definitely been asking for prayers of support."

While they support others tirelessly, a whole neighborhood has been looking out for them.

Among those in the neighborhood is John Knell. Knell organized a fundraiser to send the Mullins on a family vacation.

In record time, over $8,000 was raised from the fundraiser.

“They have touched so many people in our community,” Knell said. “We wanted to help them in some way."

The Headstrong organization helps brain cancer patients go on trips just like the one the Mullins are on now.
