A Blue Springs woman was hospitalized after a shooting that happened early Thursday morning.

At about 2:15 a.m., Blue Springs police responded to a call about shots being fired in the 3000 Block of S.E. 6th St.

Upon arrival, officers said they found a white woman in her early 20s in the 500 Block of S.E. Silver Lane suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

BSPD was trying to find a person of interest in the case.

Jose F. Hernandez, 35, is 5 feet 8 inches tall, 160 pounds, with brown hair, brown eyes and numerous tattoos.

Police said Hernandez and the victim knew each other and had been in a relationship in the past.

Officers say he was last seen driving a 2007 maroon Toyota Corolla, with a cracked front windshield and a Missouri license plate reading "KJ8-H0P."

Police say Hernandez was known to be armed.

On Friday, BSPD said that Hernandez was in custody. As of 2 p.m., no official charges had been filed.
