KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Hockey fans in Kansas City would love to see an NHL team make the Sprint Center its home.

The Sprint Center is the fourth busiest arena in the nation and just this weekend, will host the USA Gymnastics team and an NBA game.

On Wednesday, it hosted an exhibition game between the St. Louis Blues and Washington Capitals with 12,000 fans in attendance.

“I think it would be a big hit here,” said Ron Brewer.

Brewer wasn’t alone in his wishes to bring a professional hockey franchise to the Sprint Center.

“It would be great to have one here full-time. You have a perfect arena for it, a good place for them to come. I think it would be supported.”

Fans from near and far were soaking in the action on Wednesday like Vince Berry from Topeka.

“We represent the type of fans that would be coming in from the outside as well as the KC Metro area. I think it would be fabulous to have a franchise here,” said Berry.

Missouri Mavericks owner Lamar Hunt Jr. tells KCTV5 he believes an NHL team in Kansas City is a “distant dream”.
