Man escapes from minimum-security prison in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Authorities are searching for an offender who escaped from a minimum-security prison in Kansas City.

Brian Deconink, 43, escaped from the Kansas City Re-Entry Center, 651 Mulberry St., about 2:30 p.m. Sunday by scaling onto the roof of the main building with the assistance of another offender during outside recreation.

From there, Deconink was able to gain access to the outside perimeter of the facility.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol and local law enforcement were notified and are assisting with the case.

A warrant for Deconink’s arrest has been issued. An investigation into the matter is currently ongoing.

He is currently serving a five-year sentence for possession of a controlled substance in a correctional center from DeKalb County. He has a parole date of March 21, 2017.

Deconink is 6'1" tall and weighs 170 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
